USDT on TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20, picking the right network

One dollar, three different roads. Fees, speed and the single mistake that loses stablecoins for good.

USDT on TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20, picking the right network

Tether issues USDT on many blockchains. To you it is one dollar. To the network it is a completely separate token on a completely separate chain. Picking the wrong one is the most common way people lose stablecoins, so it is worth two minutes.

The three you meet most

  • TRC20 (Tron). The busiest road for everyday transfers. Fees are low and confirmations take about a minute. Addresses start with T.
  • ERC20 (Ethereum). The original and the most widely accepted. Fees climb when Ethereum is busy, so it suits larger amounts better than small ones. Addresses start with 0x.
  • BEP20 (BNB Chain). Low fees and fast blocks. Addresses also start with 0x and look exactly like Ethereum addresses.

The mistake to avoid

Ethereum and BNB Chain share one address format. A wallet will happily take a 0x address whichever of the two you pick. Send BEP20 USDT to an address that only watches Ethereum and the coins arrive on a chain that wallet never looks at. With your own wallet you can often add the network and see them again. With an exchange deposit address you usually cannot.

The rule is simple. Choose the network first, on both sides, and make sure they match.

How SwapAnonymously helps

Every stablecoin is listed with its network in the name, like USDT TRC20 or USDT BEP20, never just USDT. When you paste a receiving address we check it fits the network you chose and warn you before anything is created. A Tron address in an Ethereum field is caught on the spot.

Which one to pick

For small and medium transfers TRC20 is usually the cheapest and the most widely accepted. For DeFi on Ethereum you need ERC20. If your wallet lives on BNB Chain, BEP20 keeps fees low. Compare them on the USDT TRC20 page or swap straight into Monero from USDT.

Quick answers

Can I send TRC20 USDT to an ERC20 address?

No. They are different blockchains. Tron addresses start with T and Ethereum addresses with 0x, so the format alone usually stops you, but always choose the network on both sides.

Can I send BEP20 USDT to an ERC20 address?

The addresses look identical, and that is exactly the danger. The coins land on BNB Chain at that address. If the wallet behind it supports BNB Chain you can get them back, but an exchange deposit address often cannot.
